Out and About with blacktopblues Society

Recently, at the Feb.11th blacktopblues monthly jam, we were graced by a star of different proportions. Judi Richins, Part-Time freelance photographer and owner/instructor of the Red Bluff School of the Music Arts, a role she has played for 34 years. She has taught a lot of music and won numerous photography awards for her work. So, when we noticed her taking shots of the musicians, it was as natural as can be that the Ham's in the Grange Hall, started to style and profile as she clicked away... At any rate, we feel blessed, to have our jam photo's included on this page, but the special sauce here was a photographer attached to their instrument... more commonly known as a camera. We appreciate the interest Judi took in our jam. We were all pleased to be her subjects d'art. You can contact Judi by calling 530-529-0383 for inquiries about openings in classes.
Curtiss Johnson, is a regular player @ blacktopblues Society Jams. Curtiss has been playing as long as they have been making clocks.Curtiss is a musician extraordinaire, playing drums, bass & guitar. Using his Talent & Skill to keep the band, Downtown & the Feelers on track and ultimately his alter ego KILLAKING CURTISS. Curtiss has crossed over many genre's to round out being one of the area's top musicians.

Marty Trendler, plays bass in two groups locally, RIVER ROCK BAND & 3 CENT PENNY. he is also a member of the MERRY STANDISH Comedy troupe, singing, acting and being a regular cut-up on stage. No stranger to the lense either, he spends part of his time doing video work for 21rst Century Video. He is considered a staple at the blacktopblues Jams, by delivering the bottom line.

Hap Newman, in this particular outing, was packing a trumpet. You can usually catch Hap leading the Jams with his salty vocals and ultra-tasty flute work. Also of note is Hap's talent for making musical instruments in his studio for use in his recording studio. Has traveled extensively in USA selling his instruments and playing @ festivals thru-out the contiguous USA.

This fella is one of the many new players in the blacktopblues circle of musicians. Paul Cadinha, commands a unique edge on a vocal level, but his mastery of his instrument, is what will be having you thinking on the ride home. Paul, is a welcome addition to the jams and to the RIVER ROCK BAND. He is also the creative force behind the newly formed BLACKTOPS groove band. Look for this musicians to be involved in musical events in your communities in the future.

bilcrook & KILLAKING share some views and blues outside the West Side Grange Hall. They are both valuable resources in this community. They can be seen just about anywhere there is music in the Northstate area. These two guys have played with or shared the stage many great musicians in this area.

Kathy Presley, when not doing the lead vocals for the RIVER ROCK BAND, leads many a tune to success @ the blacktopblues Jams. She is talented, hardworking & inspiring.
We try to keep this page current... For updated info, check back as often as you wish... thanks, blacktopblues webmaster

Jason Browne, is the West Side Grange Hall Co-ordinator. He was instrumental in bringing the blacktopblues Society Jams to the Grange Hall. He is Bringing Life to this Venue, in the form of sponsorship of Youth Dances & Concerts. The Grange Hall also accommodates BALLROOM Dancing every Wednesday Nite. Jason is also an accomplished drummer in his own right. Jason's AroundTown emtertainment calendar can be viewed in Thursdays, Red Bluff Daily News entertainment section.

A Saxophone player seems to be always welcome @ a Jam, any Jam. Pictured is Ian Wiess, a friend of Paul Cadinha from out of the area. Ian was welcomed by the some of the best blues musicians in the surrounding area's.It's the new musicians that seem to help the blues society's in their prospective missions. That is primarily the camaradrie shown when new musicians drop in for a visit. Welcome, Ian !!!

And yet, another reincarnation of these Northstate favorites, the ONE NITE ONLY band. The current line up includes these veteran musicians (L to R) Guitarist, Marty Tully, on Saxophone(Alto & Tenor) & Vocals, Dr. Derek Washington, Paul King, Lead Vocalist, Percussion, Ted "THE LEGEND" Evans, holding down the bottom line, Jerome Said & bilcrook on guitar & backup vocals
